📽 movies

rewatched some old favourites and missed watching them w my mum. but i did watch one new movie this month —
  1. bad genius — ⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑
  2. ⟲ lagaan — ⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑
  3. ⟲ kabhi khushi kabhi gham — ⭑⭑⭑

bag genius
objectively is it a five star watch? debatable. did i enjoy it a LOT? hell yeah. the whole concept of running a cheating scam based on your academic prowess and roping in another fellow academic into it is just. WOW. my morals were all over the place w this movie and that's how you know it was a good one. were all of the characters sort of bad people? well, yeah, but that's what made them compelling to me. esp given their levels of believing they were still doing the right thing and now realizing how messed up it was. i was so Stressed™ by the time the final heist came up — which again!!! academics mixed with heists is EXACTLY my niche w/o me even knowing that. yeah. i enjoyed this one a lot (although admittedly the ending was a little too anticlimatic for me i'd have loved to see this morally ambiguous plot to leave me at a morally ambiguous ending tbh)

📺 shows/dramas

i surprisingly didn't watch a lot of tv media (apart from the usual b99 rewatch) but that's only bc i spent my whole month watching tmap and enjoying it a LOT. i ult treasure now, didn't think that was happening in 2021 lol.

  1. house of secrets — ⭑⭑⭑
  2. hometown cha cha cha — ⭑⭑⭑⭑

let's talk about the two pieces of media i did watch —

house of secrets
oh this one messed me up real good. i HATE watching psych thrillers just for this reason — it feels like it can happen irl and it terrifies me. and now i watch this documentary of one the worst type of psych thrillers coming to life. i lost sleep over this for a few days ngl. i won't go into the gruesome details but this documentary was related to the mass suicide of the burari family in delhi, india and trust me when i say it was fcked up. i couldn't objectively rate it bc at the end of the day it was a documentary, but i gave it a three despite being very well curated simply because it terrified the hell out of me and it was just not a good experience. so many trigger warnings required here. i liked that they used this as a way to also give social commentary on the taboo over therapy/treatment in asian countries, though!
hometown cha cha cha
for the sake of my sanity, let's not talk about kim seonho and his scandal. as an actor, i ABSOLUTELY adore shin min ah and kim seon ho and so when i heard they were in a drama together, i was like I. NEED. TO. WATCH. and to be fair the first 12-ish episodes didn't disappoint. i loved their characters, and the progression and the people of the village — it was just a very comforting drama for me and the source of my happiness weekly. the last four episodes — i just think not everyone needs an upsetting past and in hong dusik's case i really would've done away w it because there were SO MANY PLOTHOLES in that history it actually took AWAY from the drama instead of adding to it. it was heading into 5 star territory, and this made it drop to 2.5-3 star. the only reason i gave it a 4 was bc the actors saved the drama and the first 12 episodes. no regrets but honestly if they took away the whole hong dusik plot and just made him someone who realized he didn't wanna be in a capitalistic world and hence he came back to his village i'd have been so happy. it was a delight to watch them on screen though <3

anyways yeah i thoroughly enjoyed tmap, treasure is SO PRECIOUS they went into my ult list SO QUICK. mashi i'll do anything for you !!!! anyways can't wait for more content since i've wiped out almost everything.

📚 reading

actually did not read any fics this month??? i did listen to the audiobook of little fires everywhere as mentioned last month. it wasn't 5 stars but it was definitely 4 stars and i enjoyed it a lot. made me think a lot about my place in the world, the characters were written spectacularly as expected from ng and i'm excited to watch the show!

💻 writing

wrote dream exchange fic and that's about how far it goes. also realized i really wanna write mashikyu. excited to see where that leads me :]

💌 misc thoughts

uni is hard. im tired and burnt out and anxious and i haven't written or read ANYTHING so im suffering but wtv. i'm so close to getting my degree that nothing can bring me down. i think i'm only gonna distance myself more from rpf/rps for a while and focus on myself and bettering my health which has gone down significantly over the month. hoping for a better november fr. glad treasure is in my life though, i love these boys so much they bring so much happiness in my life.

see you next month maybe, idk if i'll have the energy to keep doing this, you can see how half arsed this one was because i'm just so tired that i have no coherent thoughts.
